love is blind. really?

i was sitting with my girlfriend on the pavement on marine lines, mumbai. the sun was easing itself into the endless expanse of water. the air was was breeezy and salty. not being from mumbai, we were more engrossed in watching the sea, sand and the sun. it was then that we heard a shrill laughter emanate from somewhere around us. we looked around. there was a couple sitting on the same pavement a couple of meters away from us. Both were about 25-30 years old. He was wearing blue trousers and a white shirt and she was in a green salwar-kameez. He was holding a box full of chocolates in his hands. Perk, Dairy Milk, 5 star, Snickers, Crackle - it had all the chocolate brands in it (no, we were not peeping, the box was transparent). Amidst a sea of hassled and troubled faces around, theirs were smiling genuinely. Occasionaly he placed a loving hand on her shoulder, she responded by caressing it warmly. We were smiling, too. How much they love each other, we were wondering. And as she opened the box to pick a chocolate, we saw that she dabbled in the box for a moment or two, feeling the various chocolates in the box before choosing one. "O my god!" gasped my girlfriend, "they're blind." I realised it too. I felt the hair on my neck stand on their end. Yes, they were blind. They couldn't see each other. Probably they never had. Yet, it was evident from their warm and glowing faces that they were happy. They were in love. I looked at my girlfriend. "How could love be so pure?" she asked. I had no answer.
